Frederiek is a lecturer in art and design theory at Minerva Art Academy in Groningen (BA and MA). In her PhD research she is working on projects involving a dialogical and participatory approach to higher arts education.

Her research promotes the development of a pedagogy that stimulates art students to develop their practice from a position of care to take responsibility for the development of their role in and with the context of which they are part.

This pedagogy aims to prepare art students for a professional field that is as fragmented as other domains of social life. It is her objective that artists and designers will no longer be subjected to complex systems but use their artistic attitude to navigate an ever-changing world.
